The generalization of allied military operations implies a heavy concentration of means and requires thorough co-operation from the various operational units:
- Logistics suitable points for transports (harbours, airports, train stations ,…)
- Air bases with substantial stores of ammunition
- Surface ships packed with ammunition
- And concentration in hostile territory
Such concentrations of means make ideal targets and, in particular, non-IM stockpiles represent a substantial risk for personnel, nearby combat platforms and property.
IM which are developed and manufactured under common requirements will increase confidence
in each partner’s munitions and are a necessity for interoperability.
IM are currently available and some are in service: regular tests and analyses demonstrate their capabilities under the most severe conditions.
